Zauchensee– skiing fun good enough for the World Cup
A few nice hotels, interesting restaurants and the imposing World Cup arena – that’s Zauchensee. Not too big, idyllically situated in a magnificent mountain landscape and strategically perfectly positioned for skiing: in no time at all you will be taken to an Olympic skiing region. Gamskogel and Rosskopf are its skiing mountains. Be enticed by the hottest and highest pistes under the sun and the cosiest lodges! Each year a few additional metres of piste and new lifts are added. And more and more often, Zauchensee features in international sports reports as venue of Alpine World Cup races and big freestyle events.
The World Cup arena is your entry to the world of skiing. An escalator takes you from the underground car park to the lift up to the pistes and the beautiful powdery snow. First-class service: between 8 and 10pm, the car park is free for ski pass holders. All you need to do is get your parking ticket stamped at the cashier’s desk by the lift! That pays for a few rounds of Aprés Ski in the cosy cafés and trendy bars in the World Cup arena. You left your ski goggles behind or may be you are looking to hire the latest carver model? You can do that in the world cup arena, too!
Tip for pros:
Work your way from piste to piste!
Because our ski region is very large it could happen that you get lost
and only ever find yourself on the not so exciting connecting routes.
That would be a great pity because you would miss the most beautiful
slopes! Much better if you get an overview of the region first and work
your way from lift to lift!
Flachauwinkl – snowboarders’ home base
Flachauwinkl is easily accessible, just take the exit off Tauern motorway A10. It is therefore particularly recommended for day skiers!
In Flachauwinkl you can join the skiing fun in two ways:
Either by taking the cabin train towards ski paradise Zauchensee or with the Walchau 6-seater chair lift towards Kleinarl!
Between the two cableways, in Flachauwinkl, you will be shuttled back and forth by the legenday "Zauchi"!
The Absolut-Park of the Kleinarl cableways in the small village of Flachauwinkl is a great one for boarders. Freestylers and skiers who will try anything meet up at the so-called Shuttleberg between Flachauwinkl and Kleinarl.
For experts, the 1.5 kilometres and four sections (Kickerline, Railcombo, Halfpipe and Jibline) in the Absolut-Park are no trouble at all. The rest of us need a little practice – and there are plenty of professional opportunities. A young and committed team looks after the snowboarders’ home base. Freeriders can be found above the Hubertus lift. Carvers put their foot down – speed skiing without speed limit on the measurement runs and the carving parcours.

Freerider tummeln sich oberhalb des Hubertusliftes. Auch Carver geben hier Gas – ohne Tempolimit beim Speedskiing auf den Zeitmess-Strecken und den Carving Parcours.

Kleinarl – home to the stars of skiing
Far down in the valley you can find the idyllic village of Kleinarl – a proper picture book village. Surrounded by the most beautiful mountains with a view of the Hohe Tauern national park – no wonder Annemarie Moser-Pröll, the most successful female skier of all times, grew up here and has now returned. The dominating feature of the horizon is the mighty Ennskraxn, and to the right you can find the Mooskopf – a must for carvers, snowboarder, connoisseurs and experts. To the left, there is the Shuttleberg – the link to Flachauwinkl. You can imagine what to expect: speedy first class pistes, slopes for the little ones, never-ending fun in the park. And lots of fun in the cosy lodges.
What’s great about Kleinarl is that you can start skiing right in the middle of the village – you may even be able to ski right to your hotel room. Kleinarl is simply ideal for a family holiday.
